What’s up with Network Marketing?

Recently, I’ve been giving a lot thought to the problems I’m hearing about the difficulties related to network marketing. Now, truthfully, I’m a network marketing freak. I love the concept, I love the compensation of most of the programs and I especially love the residual income that can be derived from a successful business.

And that brings me to my point: how is network marketing to be successful in the 21st century? More than ever with companies laying off workers, the cost of living skyrocketing, gas going crazy, healthcare costs in the stratosphere we’re seeing a greater need than ever for folks to create new avenues of income and network marketing is in a prime position to reign supreme. But, battling things like the web, the internet, videos, email, fatigue, stress, etc. all creating noise and fighting for the attention of possible leads and downlines, how does a person break through to reach qualified, interested leads?

Having been involved in network marketing in one form or another for over twenty years I’ve been able to watch the evolution of the marketing methods used in the business and I’ve come to this conclusion: there’s been NO evolution! Right? Most programs are STILL using flyers, home meetings, hotel meetings, cold calling, buying lists, buying ads, posting literature, etc. as though these were cutting edge ideas!!

Those avenues are like trying to get around on horse and buggy when you could be flying a jet. Both work, both will get you to your destination, but, there’s a world of difference is the results from using them.

Come on! This is the 21st Century, for crying out loud. Do these companies know the internet exists? Most just use it to post a homepage for their reps to send folks to, but, don’t have the foggiest idea how to use it correctly to qualify leads.

Training, teaching and mentoring are what I do best now a days and I tell all of my downlines to quit cold calling, toss the flyers and get with the program. Use the internet wisely and you can have leads and future downlines actually seeking YOU out without ever wasting time and money on fruitless, and truthfully, sometimes painful methods.

Network marketing in the 21st century is fun, exciting, and profitable. Technology has changed the way we do business in the MLM world. If your struggling with success, discouraged with your progress and frustrated with your small checks (assuming you EVEN get one) then take my suggestion and hit the Net. All you’ll need is a good mentor that knows and understands and uses the internet properly, a program you like and believe in, and a desire and drive to prosper. We all know the internet has revolutionized the way Network Marketers do business.  Not only can you avoid the shame and embarrassment of pestering family and friends when you market online, you can save yourself time, as well.  But if you’re marketing your Network Marketing business online–or thinking about it–be sure to avoid these traps that will keep you from achieving the level of success you desire.

Trap 1:  Wasting Time on the Internet

Surfing the internet rather than using it for a purpose can be a temptation every time you sit down at your computer . It’s important to be disciplined about what you are going to do when you get on the internet.  If you spend time looking at every story and article, clicking on all the ads, and never actually marketing your Network Marketing business, you’re not going to get very far.

Solution:  Set limits for yourself.  Give yourself a set amount of time–10 or 15 minutes, perhaps–to do whatever you want.  Check the weather, read the latest gossip about Brangelina, and get to work when your time limit is up.

Trap 2:  Checking Your E-mail Excessively

You want to be accessible to your downline and your prospects, so you check your e-mail regularly.  And that’s a good thing!  But spending too much time checking and responding to e-mail can interrupt tasks you are trying to complete and keep you from getting to tasks you should complete.

Solution:  Again, set limits for yourself.  Turn off the “ding” that notifies you when you receive a new e-mail.  Set some time aside in your schedule a couple of times a day to read and respond to e-mail. 

Your downline will be more respectful of your time if you’re accessible but not always available.  And responding to prospects within seconds or minutes just comes across as desperate, if you ask me.

Trap 3:  Trying to Learn Everything at Once

There is so much to learn when it comes to internet network marketing.  Many Network Marketers try to do it all at once–blogging, pay-per-click, forum marketing…the list goes on.  The result is they never become an expert in anything and get dismal results at everything.

Solution:  While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using more than one method of marketing, you should focus your attention on becoming an expert in one area.  Then once you feel you’ve mastered it, you can move on to the next method and master that as well.

Network Marketers who master a method of marketing before trying something different achieve better results…and they’re a lot less frustrated and burned out as a result!

How will refering new Internet affiliates to an Internet affiliate marketing program make me money in the future? Thats where a second tier Internet affiliate marketing program works like magic!

Internet Affiliates are getting cleverer by the day. So these days, Internet affiliates know the difference between the different types of website traffic they can get paid for. There are a lot of definitions though – CPM, CPC, CPA, CPL, CPD and many more.
 
CPM is impressions, when the publisher (the website owner) gets paid every time a banner is shown.

CPC is clicks, where the publisher (or email marketer and other Internet marketers) gets paid every time a banner or text link is clicked upon.

The other ways of getting paid are grouped together under the term performance marketing – and this is where the term Internet affiliate is most commonly used as well.

An Internet affiliate is a marketer who sends visitors to another website using a variety of techniques (such as placing banners or text links on their own website, buying sponsored listings on search engines, email marketing and many other different techniques) and gets paid when an action happens. This action can be a lead (CPL stands for Cost per Lead), a Sale (CPS stands for Cost per Sale), a download (CPD stands for Cost per download) and many other variations.

Some in the Internet marketing industry refer to performance based marketing as CPA (cost per acquisition), although the term is also sometimes used for specific types of campaigns such as leads or sales.

Now that we have got over the hard part, the rest is easy to understand.

The Internet affiliate gets paid for sending visitors to a specific landing page where an action happens – either a lead, a sale, a download or some other sort of action that the advertiser requires. As an example, some advertisers are looking to build up their databases, so they pay for each opt in email address they receive, others want leads from specific locations, so they pay for zip codes, and then try convince the visitors after they fill in their zip code, to fill in a more detailed lead form.

The common denominator is that the Internet affiliate gets paid when an action happens.

A Second Tier Internet affiliate marketing program is simply finding new Internet marketers to sign up under you to do EXACTLY what you are doing – sending visitors to different offers and getting paid when the visitors perform some sort of action. So why would you want other Internet marketers to sign up under you to promote the same offers? Simple – you get paid a percentage of the amount the Internet affiliate you refer gets paid? Sounds complicated?

Do not worry, it is not hard to understand. As an example, say Alex promotes 5 different offers on a single Internet affiliate marketing network. He gets paid for every lead, sale, email and zip code he generates from these different offers. Alex now tells Michel about the Internet affiliate marketing network and gets Michel to sign up using a banner or text link that has Alex’s referral code built into it. Michel now signs up to the Internet affiliate marketing network under Alex and starts promoting various offers and advertisers from the Internet affiliate marketing network. These offers DO NOT have to be the same offers that Alex is promoting. Michel can promote ANY of the offers on the Internet affiliate marketing network.

And this is the best part…

For any amounts that Michel gets paid, Alex receives a percentage of the amount over and above what Michel gets paid. So if Michel gets paid $1000 in Month 1, and the second tier Internet affiliate marketing program is paying 5%, then Alex would receive $50 just for referring Michel.

But it gets even better…

Some second tier affiliate marketing networks pay LIFETIME commissions. So Alex would not get a referral commission just for a month or a year – he receives it FOR ALL TIME.

If Michel becomes a super Internet affiliate and starts generating HUGE commissions every month, Alex can just sit back and collect the checks as he referred him.

There are 3 important things to know when finding Internet affiliates to sign up under you on second tier affiliate programs:

Is the Internet affiliate marketing program or affiliate marketing network credible, has proper tracking so your referrals are correctly tracked, has good campaigns and offers for the Internet affiliates to promote so they actually do make money, and do they pay timeously? Assuming that the Internet affiliate marketing program or network is good, what percentage do they pay you on amounts that your referrals get paid? All programs vary so compare different programs to see what the industry standard is.

How long do you continue receiving referral commissions for? Some pay for a month, some for the lifetime, and of course there are many variations in between.
 
 So do your homework and find a second tier program that can make you easy money long in the future for the work you are doing today.
