Given the worldwide web’s power and reach, internet network marketing promises spectacular money-making opportunities. A skilled salesperson with adequate ‘net skills’ probably can make a great living with monthly residual income in a relatively short time, living as lavishly as all those characters we see in television commercials.
But before he or she makes a commitment or launches a site, a would-be internet network marketer must get all the facts and then all the facts about the facts. For all its genuine promise, internet network marketing also provides frighteningly fertile ground for fraud, abuse, and good old-fashioned “cons.”
A reasonable, respectable network marketing on-line business will operate almost exactly like a virtual store: A parent company, which warehouses your products and manages most of the logistics, authorizes you to represent them and their products.
Naturally, you should represent products in which you believe in, you use them, you trust them, and you know they honor their guarantees and warranties. You will need to use internet traffic methods such as viral marketing, Google PPC, (SEO) Search Engine Optimization and web 2 marketing strategies to drive people to your site and then use good direct sales models to close sales.
You then, work with your parent company to deliver the products, earning a reasonable commission on each sale. For better or for worse, the most respectable on-line marketers, pay only for sales-strictly commission paid under strict guidelines and tight accountability measures.
Buzzwords for beginners
“Recruiting” and “Sign-Up Fees”: Beware! If the parent company pays as much or more for you to enlist “downstream” distributors in your network marketing opportunity, people who do the selling for you while you get credit for it; you face considerable risk that you’re involved with a pyramid scheme. Be especially cautious about parent companies that raise the stakes as your recruiting increases. And if the “buy-in” or “franchise fee” seems a little pricey, stay away. In the best situations, you should pay a small licensing fee and then a wholesale price for your products.
“The 70% Rule”: Your company should have and enforce this Rule, because it discourages you from piling-up inventory or buying too many of your own products for the sake of commissions. The Rule is simple: the parent company forbids your purchase of new inventory until you have sold through at least 70% of your stock on hand.
“Associate” or “Dealer”: By far the easiest relationship with your parent company. You work strictly as a salesperson, generating sales and earning commissions, never managing inventory because people will purchase products directly from the parent company. This arrangement simplifies your accounting and reduces your tax liabilities; in many states, it probably also eliminates worries about sales taxes.
Legitimate internet network marketing can not only create very respectable incomes, but can create great residual income and wealth. Internet network marketers must have certain skill sets such as excellent sales skills, and they must know how attract other network marketers and consumers to their product and business. These skill sets are critical for your business survival, the problem being that most network marketers do not possess these skills and have been taught faulty sales skills from their upline and network marketing companies.
